Overview

Amelogenesis imperfecta, hypoplastic/hypomaturation, X-linked 2 is a rare inherited disorder involving abnormal formation of the tooth enamel which causes it to be thin and soft. The abnormality is inherited in a X-linked manner (Xq22-q28). 

Symptoms

  • Brown discoloration of teeth
  • Yellow discoloration of teeth
  • Thin tooth enamel
  • Soft tooth enamel
  • Easily damaged teeth

Causes

  • Internal resorption
  • Calcium metabolism disorders
  • Rickets
  • Certain medications
  • Maternal tetracyclines during pregnancy
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Mercury dental amalgam
