Overview

An inherited disorder involving muscle wasting and weakness in the shoulder and lower leg. The exact symptoms that occur may vary from patient to patient with males often being more affected than females. An interesting observation of this condition is that symptoms and rate of progression tends to be more severe with each passing generation. 

Symptoms

  • Foot drop
  • Clubfoot
  • Atrophy of lower leg muscles
  • Atrophy of shoulder muscles
  • Congenital absence of muscles
  • Laryngeal palsy
  • Progressive weakness of muscles in end of limbs
  • Amyotrophy
  • Progressive weakness of leg muscles
  • Progressive weakness of arm muscles
  • Progressive wasting of arm muscles
  • Progressive wasting of leg muscles
  • Progressive shoulder girdle weakness
  • Progressive wasting of shoulder girdle muscles
  • Progressive wasting of pelvic girdle muscles
  • Progress weakness of pelvic girdle muscles
  • Paraplegia
