Overview

Chromosome 8, Monosomy 8p2 is a rare chromosomal disorder characterized by deletion (monosomy) of a portion of the eighth chromosome.

Symptoms

* Mental retardation * Retarded growth * Abnormal head shape * Facial malformations * Small head * Epicanthal folds * Heart abnormalities * Male genital abnormalities * Short nose * Broad nose * Low nose bridge * Wide nose bridge * Small jaw

Causes

In most cases, Chromosome 8, Monosomy 8p2 appears to result from spontaneous (de novo) errors very early in embryonic development that occur for unknown reasons.
