Fetal hydantoin syndrome

Overview

A rare disorder caused by fetal exposure to phenytoin (anticonvulsant drug) and resulting in various abnormalities.

Symptoms

* Growth deficiency * Mental deficiency * Wide anterior fontanel * Metopic ridging * Widely spaced eyes * Broad nasal bridge * Depressed nasal bridge * Short nose * Bowed upper lip * Broad alveolar ridge * Cleft lip * Cleft palate * Hypoplasia of distal phalanges * Small nails * Low arch dermal ridge patterning * Hypoplastic fingertips * Finger-like thumb * Hip dislocation * Short neck * Rib anomalies * Widely spaced nipples * Small nipples * Umbilical hernia * Inguinal hernia * Pilonidal sinus * Coarse hair * Thick hair * Hirsuitism * Low-set hairline * Abnormal palmar crease * Strabismus * Failure to thrive * Growth deficiency * Mental deficiency * Wide anterior fontanel * Metopic ridging * Widely spaced eyes
