Pierson syndrome: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by a small pupil and kidney disease at birth.

Cataract Blood in urine Leg weakness Reduced muscle tone Movement disorder

Causes

Several types of abnormalities of mitochondrial DNA cause Pearson syndrome.

Treatment

Medical Care No specific therapy is available for individuals with Pearson syndrome or other mitochondrial cytopathies. Attentive care and awareness of possible complications may prevent death and minimize morbidity.
