Cognitive and neuroplastic changes following surgical hemispherectomy and in-utero strokes affecting an entire hemisphere

Description: The main goal is to ascertain the state-of-the-art in hemispherectomy outcome as a
precursor to preparing a protocol to test four assumptions stated above. Hemispherectomy
studies need to consider the surgical management, neurological management of the effects of the
hemispherectomy, and long-term outcomes. All will playa role in interpreting the ability of the
intact hemisphere to adapt to the functional demands of the environment. To that end, we plan to
invite leading neurologists, neurosurgeons and cognitive neuroscientists to discuss their
experience with patients receiving hemispherectomies.
