MANILA, Philippines – The life of Paulo Cagomoc, the man with an abnormal profusion of moles on his body, has changed after his story was featured in ABS-CBN's "Failon Ngayon" in November last year.

Paulo, 23, suffers from 2 rare skin conditions called dysplastic nevi and bathing trunk nevi. Both are skin disorders related to the nevus or moles.

The big moles covering almost Paulo's entire body made him the subject of public mocking.

After being teased as “taong unggoy” in his hometown in Sapang Palay, Bulacan, Paulo had considered ending his life.

Aside from his skin condition, Paulo also suffers from a deformed waist that sometimes gives him excruciating pain.

Doctors also suspect that Paulo has haemophilia, a genetic disorder that impairs the body’s ability to control blood clotting.

Paulo is the eldest among 3 siblings. His mother, Aida, is a maid, while his father is a caretaker in a pig farm in Samar.

Scholarship

After Paulo’s story was aired on "Failon Ngayon," Systems Technology Institute (STI) College offered him a 4-year scholarship.

Paulo had hesitated to enter college for fear of being mocked again. He instead gave the scholarship to his younger sister, Aura.

Help did not stop from coming for Paulo and his family.

"Failon Ngayon" host and veteran news anchor Ted Failon said another donor offered to shoulder all of Aura’s expenses while attending college.

New job, new life

Dr. James Dy, president of Chinese General Hospital, also watched Paulo’s story and decided to offer him a job.

Paulo now works at the hospital’s linen department.

Failon said Paolo’s outlook in life seemed to have changed almost a year after taking the job.

He added that Paolo had also learned how to socialize, something the latter found hard to do before because of his appearance.
