GEORGE TOWN: Deepavali is just around the corner but it will be a quiet and low-key affair for Year Two pupil S. Mogeshwaran, who is suffering from a rare condition called Hirschprung’s disease.

The eight-year-old boy hopes he will get to undergo a series of operations to get rid of the disease, in which the nerves that control the intestines do not form properly.

Right now, Mogeshwaran has to be given enema once every five days to clear his intestinal tract.

He needs RM55,000 to undergo the operations.

“I want to lead a normal life like others,” he told a press conference organised by Penang Hindu Association deputy president P. Murugiah at Derma Sivasanta Clinic in River Road.

“The association had asked Penang Adventist Hospital to carry out the operation by this week even if they can not raise the money in time,” said Murugiah.

Cheques can be made under the name of Mogeshwaran a/l Sivakumar and sent to Murugiah at 50, Jalan Sungai Kelian, Tanjung Bungah 11200, Penang. For details, call Thanaletchumi (016-472 2397).
