The family of a 20 month old Guernsey boy, who died from a very rare disease, are celebrating his life.

Last month Shay Savident Williams passed away from Niemann Pick Type A, a neurodegenerative disease that affects approximately 1 in 10 million people.

Tomorrow, a crew made up of his family, are rowing from France to Guernsey in his memory.

The men involved in the challenge say they aren't experienced rowers and the first time they picked up an oar was five months ago when they decided to take on the challenge.

Originally the team were fundraising for equipment to give Shay a better quality of life but now the money raised will help other families who need help and support.

It is hoped that as well as the funds the row will also raise some much needed awareness of the rare disease.
