Hodgkin's disease, (also known as Hodgkin lymphoma or Hodgkin's lymphoma), is a type of lymphoma, in which cancer originates from a specific type of white blood cells called lymphocytes.

This video explains Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The video includes the following sections: what is the anatomy of the lymphatic system, what is Hodgkin’s lymphoma and what are its causes, what are the signs and symptoms of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, how is Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosed, how is Hodgkin’s lymphoma staged and how is Hodgkin’s lymphoma treated.

What is Hodgkin Disease? Sign, Symptoms & Causes of Hodgkin Lymphoma

Hodgkin's lymphoma also known as Hodgkin lymphoma or Hodgkin's disease is a type of lymphoma, in which cancer originates from a specific type of white blood cells called lymphocytes.

A history of infectious mononucleosis due to infection by Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) may increase risk of Hodgkin lymphoma or Hodgkin's disease, but the precise contribution of Epstein–Barr virus remains largely unknown. Hodgkin lymphoma is characterized by the orderly spread of disease from one lymph node group to another and by the development of systemic symptoms with advanced disease. When Hodgkins cells are examined microscopically, multinucleated Reed–Sternberg cells (RS cells) are the characteristic histopathologic finding.

Types of lymphoma

There are 2 kinds of lymphomas:

Hodgkin disease (named after Dr. Thomas Hodgkin, who first recognized it) Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
These types of lymphomas differ in how they behave, spread, and respond to treatment, so it is important to tell them apart. Doctors can usually tell the difference between them by looking at the cancer cells under a microscope or by using sensitive lab tests.

Both children and adults can develop Hodgkin disease.

Hodgkin's lymphoma signs and symptoms may include:

Painless swelling of lymph nodes in your neck, armpits or groin
Persistent fatigue
Fever and chills
Night sweats
Unexplained weight loss — as much as 10 percent or more of your body weight
Loss of appetite
